common questions
Insurance FAQ
The questions we get every day about hail claims, rates and deductibles.
Will filing a hail claim raise my rates?
Hail falls under comprehensive coverage, not an at-fault claim, so carriers usually treat it differently from a collision. Rates in hail-prone areas can change after a major storm whether you file or not. Policies vary, so check the details with your agent.
Do I have to use the shop my insurance recommends?
No. You have the right to select where your vehicle is repaired, regardless of which shop your carrier recommends. Bring us the estimate they wrote and we will work from it, including filing a supplement if the damage exceeds what the adjuster counted.
Which insurance companies do you work with?
All major carriers: State Farm, GEICO, Progressive, Allstate, USAA, Liberty Mutual, Farmers, Nationwide, American Family and every other company. We work with all of them every day.
What if the adjuster missed dents?
Adjusters work fast and miss dents, especially on roofs and horizontal panels. We run our own count under raking light. When we find more than the original estimate covers, we file the supplement with your carrier ourselves.
How much does hail damage repair cost?
Cost depends on dent count, size and location. Light hail may run a few hundred dollars; severe damage across every panel can reach several thousand. If the damage is covered by your comprehensive policy, your insurance pays for the repair and you are responsible for your deductible. Our inspection and estimate are free.
Is there a fee for an estimate?
The preliminary estimate is free. Stop by any of our shops and we’ll inspect your car on the spot. A complete, itemized estimate is a bigger job: we bring the car inside, map and count every dent and enter it all into our estimating system, so there’s a fee when a full estimate is requested without a repair. Repairing with us? Then you don’t pay that fee. We handle the entire process with your insurance, and if you have comprehensive coverage, you pay only your deductible.
How long does the claim and repair take?
Some insurers approve the repair in 3 to 5 business days, others take 10 business days or longer. That timing is up to your insurance company. Once approved, light hail damage can be finished in as little as 1 to 5 days; heavy hail, collision repairs, paint work or parts on back order can take 3 to 4 weeks or longer.
Is it worth filing a claim?
Bring the car in. We inspect it for free and tell you if it’s worth filing a claim.
Will the repair show up on my vehicle’s history?
Because paintless repair never touches the finish, nothing gets reported as refinishing. So nothing shows up as paint work when you sell or trade in the car.
